Crockpot Dog Food- Quick, Tasty, and Easy!!

**This recipe is a sure thing for any dog!! My pup (Brady) is super picky, but he loves when I cook anything because he thinks it’s what we are eating so, therefore he always wants it. Anytime I make this recipe for Brady, he scarfs the whole thing down pretty quickly! He also goes crazy for all of the smells as it’s cooking all day. Surprisingly enough, my husband also liked it when he tried it for the first time -it just needed some basic seasonings :-), so feel free to try it for a dinner for yourself one night too!

This recipe makes a lot, but it does depend on how much you feed your dog during each meal, so please make adjustments to the measurements, as needed! Buying dog food can be super expensive and chances are you have no idea what some of the ingredients actually are. By making this yourself you are saving money AND are actually aware of what you are feeding your dog.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 3 hours & 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 skinless, boneless chicken breast
  • 3 carrots (peeled and cut)
  • 2 sweet potatoes (peeled and cut)
  • 1 cup frozen or canned peas
  • 1/2 bag spinach
  • 1 can cut green beans
  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Directions:

  1.  Place 1 cup of brown rice on the bottom of the crockpot. Fill with 2 cups of water.

  2. Drain can of cut green beans and place on top of the rice/water mix.

  3. Peel and cut the 2 sweet potatoes into quarters (keep them thick enough so they don’t turn to mashed sweet potatoes before its done.) Place in the crockpot on top of the mixture.
  4. Peel and cut the 3 carrots and slice into small chunks. Next, place it in the crockpot on top of the mixture.

  5. Next, place the 3 chicken breasts on the top of the mixture in the crockpot. Cover with about 1/2 cup of chicken broth and cook on high for about 3 hours (might need a little more time, but will depend on the size of your chicken).
  6. After about 3 hours, take the chicken out and give everything else a good toss. Slice or shred up the chicken to how you would like it for your dog. Place it back into the crockpot once you have cut up all of the remaining pieces of chicken.

  7. Add in half of the bag of spinach and 1 cup of peas. I had frozen peas/carrot mix, so I just used that! Mix it all into the crockpot and cover for about 10-15 minutes or until everything is completely cooked through.

    8. This recipe makes a TON! You can keep a good amount of it in a Tupperware to have for the week and then you can freeze single-sized ziploc bag fulls of the rest. It’s really easy to heat up when you need to use it: heat it over the stove or in the microwave!  **When I mix it up for my dog before serving I like to use a fork to sort of mash everything up a bit to make sure he eats ALL of the veggies!
