*This very user-friendly document has helped my family to be able to budget more efficiently and track exactly where our money is going. Things tend to get hectic and this document makes it much easier to keep track of those regular financial responsibilities. On a monthly basis, we include our mortgage, utilities, student loan, car payment, and day-to-day things like, grocery shopping, and pet expenses. At the bottom of the document, calculate the total amount needed for your monthly expenses and give yourself an allowance of “play money” for the month. Whatever is leftover, you know will go right towards your savings.
*Print out enough copies of this for the year and stick it in a binder or folder to keep track of what you’re spending on a month-to-month basis OR keep digital files and do it all from your computer. If you are familiar with Google Docs, you can easily “make a copy” of this document each month you need to use it and then just add in all the information! The great thing about the digital version is that you can then link it to websites/accounts to pay online, as well as your Google Calendar to set up reminders and alerts for due dates. Going completely digital will also let you fill in ALL of the main utilities and expenses in the first column on the master sheet and then from there you just continue to make copies each month. Share this with your spouse and make sure you are both on the same page with what money is coming in and out of the house!
